This classic gothic horror story is a fun/must read for anyone who is a fan of strange mysteries. If you already know the story and can appreciate great artwork, be sure to check it out. If you’re not familiar with the original novel this short version is the perfect place to start. Once you read it you will understand why this dark character has survived for so long in pop-culture.
The Pros: The story is very easy to get into right from the beginning. It is simple and right to the point. The illustration is perfect for the story. The darker backgrounds make the pale Count Dracula stand out on each page. The bright red blood also stands out, staining each page with gore -as it should, since this is the mother of all vampire stories. You can’t help but feel for those who become victims to the Count and/or his female servants. Van Helsing is a fascinating character as well. It is exciting to see him stand toe to toe with evil and frighten the Count himself. Helsing’s opened mind seemed to help him be one step ahead of Dracula with an unlimited amount of crucifixes and garlic.
The Cons: Some of the characters did not have much development. One moment you’re starting to get to know them, and the next, they are dead. Was the ending as sharp as the ax and stake that were intended for the Count? You will have to decide, once you read it.
Dracula sucked, but Bram Stoker’s gloomy tale did not.

I was looking at this at Barnes and Nobles myself!! I have loved Bram Stoker’s novel for years. It was one of the first books I remember that really creeped me out. I still have vivid memories of turning on more lights in my room when I was reading about Johnathan Harker seeing things crawling on the wall outside his room :). Naturally I was curious how a graphic novel presentation would work. You’ve just given me a reason to justify buying it. Thanks!
